STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL

Mission Statement: St. Sabina Stewardship Council strives to empower parishioners to live God-centered lives and to challenge them to recognize and utilize their gifts and talents to glorify God.

The Stewardship Council was formed this year in response to the Parish Pastoral Council identifying Stewardship as an area of focus for our parish as we move forward.  A part time Stewardship Associate has been hired to work with the council and the parish in establishing a total stewardship parish.  The Council has begun their efforts with a retreat on the Pastoral Letter on Stewardship from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops entitled Stewardship A Disciple’s Response. The Council has also hosted a retreat for the Pastoral and Finance Councils and the Parish Staff.

The Stewardship Council will be collaborating with the Pastoral and Finance Councils, as well as the Parish Staff, to educate the parish community to the message of Stewardship as a Way of Life with the goal of becoming a total stewardship parish.

We, as a Stewardship Council, acknowledge the many stewardship efforts already taking place in our parish and wish to serve to enhance those programs and services as necessary.  We also recognize the need to improve other areas and desire to effectively assist in those areas for the betterment of our parish community.

As we move forward in our efforts of education and service to our parish community, we ask your prayers for us and our parish and an openness to receive the Message of Stewardship as a Way of Life.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
After offering various formation sessions for the entire parish community this past year, St. Sabina Parish has developed a parish pastoral council that has been meeting monthly since April 2007.  There were originally eleven members on the council, including the pastor.  In 2007 the Council spent time getting to know one another, praying together and working towards the development of a mission statement for the council.  Below is that mission statement:

The St. Sabina Pastoral Council, led by the Holy Spirit, rooted in scripture, through vision and planning strives to assist our diverse parish community in living out their baptismal call to be Christ's disciples to the world.

The council is a visioning and planning body that works together with the pastor and the wider parish community in setting future directions for the parish.  This is done in a prayerful, collaborative atmosphere of trust and mutual respect of the diverse perspectives of both the individual council members, as well as the whole parish community.

In May and June of 2010 several members of the parish went through orientation and the discernment process. At the conclusion of this process, 6 members and 2 alternates were chosen for the council to replace retiring council members. Beginning in August of 2010 our Parish Pastoral Council Members are Steven Brekel, Joe Lager, Jim Ruffini, Rob Kottenbrock, Celia Squires, Debbie Globoke, Mike Larkey, Rich Hall and Doug Butscher.  Those that went through the discernment process and will be asked to serve on the council if need arises are Jeff Jakobe and Elaine Christopher. The Council is facilitated by Biagio Mazza, Pastoral Associate at St. Sabina and Fr. Chuck Tobin, pastor.

FINANCE COUNCIL
The Finance Council is required by Catholic Church Canon Law for each parish. Members are chosen by the pastor and the business manager and serve to advise him on monetary issues in relation to the parish.  The council also reviews the monthly and quarterly reports, assists with budgeting and review and approves the annual fiscal year financial report.. An annual report is required to be sent to the Bishop each year in July after the end of our fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Saint Sabina also issues a yearly report to all the parish of income and expenses within our Annual Report given at the yearly Ministry Fair in September.

Finance Council members are Carol Lacy, Juan Alonzo, Al Gebauer, Jim Agnew. Wendy Mora, Tom Gitto, Fr. Chuck Tobin and Cecilia Imming.
