MARRIAGE

WHAT IS MARRIAGE?

"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament." (CCC1601)

MARRIAGE PREPARATION AT ST. SABINA

Engagement or betrothal is a very sacred time in the life of any couple, a time of joy, a time of reflection, a time of getting to know one another and each other’s families, a time of planning, of dreaming, a time of giving great thanks to God and to one’s family for so many gifts and blessings.

Our primary focus as a parish is upon the marriage more than the wedding; we ask the couple to set aside time to seriously pray about and think about the covenant, the union of marriage. More than the million details of the wedding, the many aspects of who the couple will be before God and the community are much more important.

Marriage Preparation: Please make arrangements by completing a Marriage application.  To receive an application, you may call the office at 816-331-4713, or you may download an application from our website.  After completion of the application, please contact the parish office to make an appointment with the Pastor.  Diocesan policy requires a 9-month to a year period of preparation. An earlier contact facilitates the process greatly. Our parish will help prepare the couple by:

ANNULMENTS
WHAT IS AN ANNULMENT?

The annulment procedure is an attempt to bring justice and compassion to many divorced and separated Catholic persons.  An annulment, also known as a declaration of invalidity, is a statement by the Church community, made after long and serious study by the Marriage Tribunal, that one of the elements seen as essential for a binding marriage was not present in the parties’ exchange of marital consent. Persons seeking an annulment are asked to contact the parish office at 816-331-4713 for an appointment with the Pastor or an Advocate.
