Sacristans
 |
Being a sacristan is a great way to get to know the parish community on a very personal level. You work closely with the priest and the liturgist to see that everything goes smoothly at Mass. It is a demanding and yet very rewarding ministry. It might be the ministry for you if you enjoy tending to the details, can think on your feet, and want to be a part of the liturgical team responsible for the Mass. The sacristan arrives one hour before Mass starts and sets up the church for Mass. This includes:
-
Unlock the doors, turn on the lights
-
Sign in all liturgical ministers
-
Give special instructions to liturgical ministers
-
Oversee special items in special Masses (baptisms, anointings, etc.)
-
Set out and put away holy vessels for Communion
-
Set out books for reading and prayers
-
Follow any special instructions from priest
-
Close up the church after Mass and secure the building.
We ask for a commitment of a minimum of one year and would prefer that sacristans commit to three years. You must be at least 18 years old (15 years for junior sacristan) and willing to serve at one or two masses a month. It is helpful, but not required, that you also are a Eucharistic Minister.
